Moving in

We got the keys for our new place one month ago, and in that time have done a LOT! We bought a bed, a set of bedroom furniture, a couch, a table. We designed and stained a desk for both of us. We went to Ikea (the picture is Juanjo getting silly on one trip), spent time on Craigslist, visited more home/furniture stores more times than we usually do in a whole year. And little by little we gathered our belongings from around the Bay. (We had boxes and things being stored with four family members in Santa Rosa, two friends in San Francisco, a friend out in the East Bay, and two different houses on the Peninsula.)

The house is finally starting to come together and feel like home, though we still have a lot of boxes to unpack. More pictures soon!

Escape to Friends and the Countryside

On impulse last week, I decided to use miles and come and see my dear old friend and her family. I have a couple more weeks before I get really busy with school again, and needed a change of scenery from the summer fog in San Francisco. So I hopped on a plane and came to their beautiful home in Vermont.

Our days have been full!

We have gone swimming.

We have taken walks.

We have played at the park, and watched the boys go down a very tall slide.

We have looked out the window at a sudden rainstorm.

We have spent time with another dear friend up from Boston, talking, laughing, and making food (and a boat for a small boy).

We have sailed the boat on a pond at grandpa’s house.

We have worked in the vegetable garden, harvesting beans, beets, carrots and much more.

And we have relaxed on the grass, under a warm sun.

What a delightful time! The only thing missing is JUANJO next to me on that grass! Next time…

New House, New Neighborhood

Here at last, pictures of the new house! We can’t wait to get our keys (August 15th) and start moving in. It’s been more than a year since we had our OWN house (we’ve been in furnished places for the last year, with everything in storage (thank you sisters’ garages!).

The apartment is the bottom floor of an old San Francisco house, on a quiet street, with a big wooden balcony that has views of Twin Peaks, and wooden floors throughout. Lots of natural light, space, and only two blocks from the main street in the Noe Valley neighborhood. And there is a shared garden in the back, with a brick path, redwood trees, and a tranquil bench.

After a year of living on the road, in comfortable and furnished, yet temporary places, we can’t wait to have our own home again. Our own furniture, books, photos. There’s also a guest bedroom, so please come visit us!
