Friends with Money (2006)

What to do when the beautiful girlfriend is out of town and you want to kill some time? Well, if you have worked enough on everything you’re supposed to be doing you take a walk downtown and catch Nicole Holofcener’s Friends with Money (2006) at the Embarcadero Landmark, of course!

Good movie! The kind only Landmark/independent houses can carry these days since not enough explosions happen to warrant major distribution. Lots of people talking. Women, to be exact, which is refreshing since so often they are pretty seat fillers around tables of men talking macho-style in 90% of Hollywood flicks.

Catherine Keener is her usual magnificent self, carrying the acting together with always pitch perfect Frances McDormand. Miss Aniston provides the sex appeal and Joan Cusack plays a convicing overachiever that seems to have no such thing as emotions.

OK, Jenniffer Aniston does a little more than provide sex appeal, I agree.

After taking a bit to pick up speed and direction (all character pieces do) the movie ends on a strong note, hitting us in the head with a distinct feeling that we’ve all got issues. Nobody is perfect, so get off the high horse, walk out of the theatre and deal with people the way you would want them to deal with you, understand you.

As is always (and will always be the case) I wished she was here to talk about it. I just had to force myself to go out, too many hours at home by myself lately. Sob! 😉
