Started the orientation in Madrid yesterday, enjoying getting to know people from all over the United States. There are 95 or so of us, about 25 who are here like I am to do research, and then about another 70 who are here to be teaching assistants. The research projects cover a wide range of topics, including wind and solar energy, opera training, medieval history, and Spanish literature. I’ve already met one of the people here researching immigration, and I’m looking forward to seeking out another 2 people later today. I am nervous about my project, about finding finding two schools in Barcelona where I can interview and observe classes. But I’m also excited to begin, after thinking about this project for so long!
